Resolving "This Salesforce extract may be corrupt" Error

When you query a Salesforce extract in Tableau Desktop, the following error might occur:

An error occurred while communicating with data source '<datasource-name> (local copy)'.
This Salesforce extract may be corrupt. Please refresh it before continuing.
Refreshing this extract will force a full refresh.


  • Tableau Desktop 8.1.2 or later
  • Salesforce extract


  1. Refresh the extract in Tableau Desktop 8.1.2 or later. For more information about refreshing extracts, see Refreshing an Extract article.
  2. Save the workbook.


An issue in Tableau Desktop 8.0, 8.1 and 8.1.1 caused data in Salesforce extracts to become corrupted. This issue has been corrected in Tableau Desktop 8.1.2, but will require you to refresh the extract.

Note: You will not receive this error if you are using a Tableau Server data source connection to a corrupted extract or connecting to a corrupted extract on Tableau Server. The extract should refresh as expected.
