Issue

When accessing a workbook on Tableau Online or publishing an extract via tabcmd the following error might occur:

PQresultStatus: 7 ERROR: unable to read from ['\\filepath....tde']
[SQL State: 58P01] [Severity: ERROR] [Primary message: unable to read from ['\\filepath.tde']
Unable to connect to the server "localhost". Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

DataServiceFailure
Unable to connect to the server "localhost". Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

Environment

  • Tableau Online 10.5
  • Extract published via tabcmd
  • TabCMD

Resolution

For affected workbooks connected to .tdsx file in Tableau Online, re-publish them by following the steps below:
  1. Download the affected .tdsx file.
  2. Open the affected tdsx file in Tableau Desktop 10.5.
  3. Drag any pill onto the sheet and it will prompt you with an error indicating that it can't find the underlying data source.
    • In this window, you will be asked if you want to replace the underlying data source.
  4. Choose Yes and select the tde / hyper file you were trying to run. Then select "Replace" with in the first place.
  5. Republish the data source using Tableau Desktop.
If you are using TabCMD to publish or refresh extracts, please upgrade to the latest version. See the tabcmd article for more information on upgrading.

Cause

An issue with the tabcmd publish --replace option resulted in an incorrect file path being used for the published TDE file.
