Error "Operation Timed Out" Refreshing Large Extracts Using Sync Client

Issue

When using the Sync Client to refresh extracts that take more than 15 minutes to complete, the following error might occur: 
 
Could not refresh the data source. If the issue persists, contact Tableau Support. 
 
 

Environment

  • Tableau Online 9.2 and 9.3 
  • Online Data Sync Client 9.2.x and 9.3.0

Cause

Scheduled refreshes caused the Tableau Online Sync client to quit unexpectedly. This behavior is related to a known issue that has been corrected in more recent releases.

Additional Information

The below related error displays in the Sync Client log file. 
 
"The Data Source: [Data Source Name] failed to refresh due to the following error: Failed to refresh data source: [Data Source Name] due to the following error: Operation timed out.\n"}
