Error "No connection could be made..." Connecting to Tableau Server PostgreSQL

Issue

When you try to connect to the Tableau Server PostgreSQL database from Tableau Desktop, the following error might occur:
 
An error occurred while communicating with the data source.
Unable to connect to the server. Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

Database error 0x80004005: Could not connect to the server;
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

Environment

  • Tableau Server
  • Tableau Desktop

Resolution

  1. Open the tabsvc.yml log file and check the value for pgsql.port or pgsql0.port
  2. ​If the value has been changed from the default (8060), you have two options:

The default PostgreSQL port has been changed.
