Published: 27 Oct 2017
Last Modified Date: 10 Nov 2017

Issue

When connecting to a Snowflake data source and aggreagating a boolean field, the following error message might occur:

SQL compilation error: Invalid identifiers BOOL_OR, BOOL_OR

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 10.3.0-10.3.4, 10.4.0
  • Snowflake

Resolution

Option 1:

Upgrade to Tableau Desktop 10.4.1, 10.3.5 or a newer version. For more information, see Upgrade Tableau Desktop.

Option 2:

Modify the calculation to return an integer value rather than a boolean value. For example:  [Region] = "Central" could become:
IF [Region] = "Central"
THEN 1
ELSE 0
END

Cause

This behavior is related to a known issue with ID 696190 which has been corrected in more recent versions.
