Receiving "HTTP 400: Bad Request" Message When Accessing View

Issue

When you access a view in Tableau Server, you may see the following error:
 
HTTP 400:
Bad Request

Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.

Unable to connect to the server "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx". Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.
Errors occurred while trying to load the workbook "/views/Book2". The load was not able to complete successfully.

Click the Refresh button in your web browser and try again.
If you continue to receive this error please contact your Tableau Server Administrator.Undo

Environment

  • Tableau Server 7.0.x
  • Internet Explorer 6 and earlier

Resolution

To resolve this issue, upgrade your Internet Explorer browser to the latest version.

Cause

Tableau Server uses the WININET.DLL component of Internet Explorer for several functions, such as parsing, publishing, and authentication.  This error indicates that the WININET.DLL is out of date.
