Error "Firebird database error 335544984" Accessing Tableau Desktop in Multi-User Environment

Issue

After upgrading to Tableau Desktop 8.2, when multiple users try to access the same instance of Tableau Desktop simultaneously, the following error might occur:
 
Warnings occurred while loading the workbook "<file path>".

The custom geocoding folder C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau 8.2\local\data\<name>.tds contains errors:
Firebird database error 335544984: Database is probably already opened by another engine instance in another Windows session
Unable to connect to the file "C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau 8.2\local\data\GEOCODING.FDB". Check that the file exists and that you have sufficient access privileges for it.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 8.2.0, 8.2.1, and 8.2.2
  • Multi-user environment

Resolution

Upgrade to Tableau Desktop 8.2.3 or a later version. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Desktop in the Tableau Knowledge Base.

Cause

This behavior is a known issue that has been corrected in more recent releases.
