Error "Fetch size 10000 exceeds the limit..." Connecting to Redshift

Issue

When you try to connect to or publish an Amazon Redshift data source, the following error might occur:
 
Fetch size 10000 exceeds the limit of 1000 for a single node configuration. Reduce the client fetch/cache size or upgrade to a multi node installation.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 8.0.
  • Tableau Desktop 8.1.0 - 8.1.5
  • Tableau Server 8.0
  • Tableau Server 8.1.0 - 8.1.5
  • Amazon Redshift

Resolution

  • Upgrade to Tableau Desktop 8.1.6 or a later version. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Desktop in the Tableau knowledge base.
  • Upgrade to Tableau Server 8.1.6 or a later version. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Server in the Tableau knowledge base.

Cause

This behavior is a known issue that has been corrected in more recent releases.
