Error "Failed to Start the Online sync Service" when Using Run Continuously Mode in Tableau Bridge

Issue

When running the Bridge (Sync Client) using the Run Continuously service mode, the following error messages might occur: 
 
Failed to start the Online sync service. Please check your installation. 
Or
Cannot start the Tableau Online sync service​. 

Environment

  • Tableau Online
  • Tableau Bridge (formerly Sync Client)
  • Run Continuously service mode

Resolution

Option 1

Ensure the Log On As option for the service has not been changed to a different Windows user. 
  1. Access the Services Management Console. 
  2. Right-click the Tableau Online sync service and select Properties
  3. Select Log On, and ensure that the same Windows account that is logged in is displayed under This account:.

Option 2

Re-enter the windows account credentials for the Sync Client service.
  1. Access the Services Management Console. 
  2. Right-click the Tableau Online sync service and select Properties
  3. Select Log On, and re-enter the credentials for the Windows user and select OK.

Cause

The Bridge (Sync Client) can only run in service mode using the Windows account which accesses the application.
