Error "Failed to edit keychain of Workbook" Editing Connection on Tableau Server

Issue

After you change ownership of a workbook or published data source on Tableau Server, when you try to refresh extracts associated with that workbook or data source, the following error might occur:
 
Invalid username or password.
 
In addition, when you try to edit the data source connection on Tableau Server, the following error might occur:
 
Failed to edit keychain of Workbook '<Workbook Name>'

Environment

Tableau Server 8.2.0 - 8.2.4

Resolution

Option 1

Upgrade to Tableau Server 8.2.5 or a later version. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Server in the Tableau Knowledge Base.

Option 2

  1. Download the workbooks and data sources from Tableau Server. For more information, see Download Workbooks in Tableau Help.
  2. Republish the workbooks and data sources. For more information, see Publishing Workbooks in Tableau Help.
Note: When you republish the workbook, you might need to change the credentials setting from Prompt user to Embedded password. For more information, see Embedding Database Credentials in Tableau Server in the Tableau Knowledge Base.

Cause

This behavior is a known issue that has been corrected in more recent releases.
