Error "Extract Not Found" Appending Data from File After Upgrading

Issue

When you try to append data to an existing extract, the following errors might occur:
 
Extract Not Found
 
and

Unable to append data from file.
Tableau Data Engine Error: 4: no such schema (Extract)

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 8.2.0 and 8.2.1
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Extracts

Resolution

Option 1

Upgrade to Tableau Desktop 8.2.2 or a later version. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Desktop in the Tableau Knowledge Base.

Option 2

Use the following workaround:
  • Name the Excel sheet that you are trying to append exactly as the original Excel sheet that you connected to. For example, if you initially connected to the sheet January in an Excel workbook named Primary, name the sheet with the data you want to append January.

Cause

This behavior is a known issue that has been corrected in more recent releases.
