Error 127 “drivers may be out of date” Connecting to Oracle After Upgrade

Issue

When you try to connect to an Oracle data source after you upgrade your Tableau Desktop product, the following error message might occur:

Function OCIArrayDescriptorAlloc not found in oci (error 127): drivers may be out of date
Unable to connect to the server "<server address>". Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Oracle

Cause

The computer running Tableau Desktop is using the 64-bit Oracle drivers with 32-bit Tableau Desktop, or vice versa.
