Issue

After connecting to a text or Excel file from Tableau Desktop 10.5, the following error may occur when a field is added to a worksheet:

collation::resolve: Unknown collation

When navigating back to the Data Source tab, the following error occurs:

[4] PQresultStatus: 7 ERROR: table '<table name>#csv' already exists [SQL State: 42P07] [Severity: ERROR] [Primary message: table '<table name>#csv' already exists]

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 10.5
  • Excel or Text files

Resolution

Option 1

Upgrade to Tableau Desktop 10.5.1. For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Desktop in Tableau Help.

Option 2

As a workaround, change the data source file locale to "English (United States)” or "English (United Kingdom)” if your workbook is in English for example.

For an Excel file, see How to set locale in Microsoft Excel from webucator.

For a text file:
  1. Right-click the data source in the data pane and select Edit data source
  2. On the canvas, click the drop-down arrow to the right of your data source and select Text File Properties
  3. Choose the desired locale.

Cause

This behavior is related to a known issue (ID: 728814) which has been fixed in a recent release of Tableau Desktop.
