Error "Cannot currently access your Tableau Repository" Opening Tableau Desktop

Issue

When you open Tableau Desktop, the following error might occur:

Cannot currently access your Tableau Repository at:

The workbooks and connections in your repository will be unavailable

When you try to change therepository location, the following error might occur:

Unable to copy non-existent directory ‘<file path>’ to ‘<file path>'

Resolution

One the the following troubleshooting steps might resolve the issue:
  • Work with you IT team to grant the user that is signed in to the computer running Tableau Desktop full permissions (read/write/modify) to the My Tableau Repository location.
  • If you are storing the repository on a USB device, assign a static drive letter to the USB device.
