Error "Calculation_<#######> does not exist"

Issue

When you add a calculated field to a view, the following error might occur:

Calculation_<########> does not exist

where ####### is a random number.

Also, the calculated fields might be renamed to "Calculation_1234567."

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Data Extracts

Resolution

Option 1:

  1. Delete the calculated field.
  2. Create a new data source extract. For more information, see Extracting Data.
  3. Re-create the calculated field in the new extract.

Option 2:

If multiple workbooks use the same data extract, you can publish the shared extract to Tableau Server.

Cause

This issue might occur if the workbook is not saved after creating a calculated field. When this happens, the calculated field's metadata in the extract does not match the metadata in the workbook. When you re-open the workbook, the extract data source returns the calculated field metadata. However, because the workbook does not contain the calculated field, Tableau names the calculated field "Calculation_<#######>."

This issue might also occur if you are sharing extract data sources between workbooks.
