Error 1935 Occurs During Tableau Desktop Installation

Issue

During Tableau Desktop installation, the following error occurs:

Error 1935. An error occurred during the installation of assembly component {XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX}
HRESULT: 0x800736FD.

The setup process terminates before the installation is complete.

Resolution

This error is not specific to Tableau and has no single cause or resolution. You may need to consult your organization's IT team for more assistance. The below options may resolve this issue:
  • As a first step, try restarting the computer and then running the Tableau Desktop installer again.
  • Consider disabling firewall or antivirus software that may be conflicting with the installation. For more information, see Internet Access Requirements
  • Ensure that your Microsoft .NET framework is up to date.

Cause

This error originates in the Microsoft Windows installer files and is not specific to Tableau Desktop.
Possible causes of this error include: 
  • The file indicated in the error message has been deleted by another application.
  • A CreateFile/ReadFile operation has been interrupted by a driver in the file system stack. 
  • The Microsoft .NET framework is out of date.

According to veteran Microsoft developer Aaron Stebner, in his blog post Troubleshooting 1935 and 2908 errors during installation, error 1935 is a common error that can prevent you from installing an application that uses the Microsoft Windows Installer MSIAssembly and MSIAssemblyName tables. He goes on to write:
In general, this error means that Microsoft Windows Installer encountered an error while trying to install assemblies to the Global Assembly Cache (GAC) or the Win32 GAC (WinSxS).
