Issue

Unable to display images in tooltips.

Environment

Tableau Desktop

Resolution

While the ability to add images to tooltips is not currently available in Tableau Desktop, you can try one of the alternative workarounds:

Option 1: Add dynamic hyperlinks to the tooltip

  1. Open the workbook in Tableau Desktop, and navigate to Worksheet > Actions.
  2. Select Add action > URL.
  3. In the Add URL Action dialog box, do the following, and then click OK:
    • Name the action.
    • For URL, insert a URL similar to one of the following:
      • http://www.bing.com/images/search?q=
    • Click the arrow to the right of the URL, and then select the dimension that contains the desired search terms.

Option 2: Use custom shape files as floating objects

  1. Open the workbook in Tableau Desktop, and select Dashboard > New Dashboard.
  2. Add the sheet to the dashboard.
  3. Add shape objects to the dashboard. For more information, see Adding Dashboard Objects.
  4. Make the shape objects floating objects. For more information, see Tiled and Floating Layouts.

Cause

The ability to add images to tooltips is not currently available in Tableau Desktop.
