When opening a workbook that contains blended data in Tableau Desktop 8.0.6 or later versions, Tableau Desktop might stop responding and the following error might occur:

Tableau has stopped working
Windows can check online for a solution for the problem

  • Tableau Desktop 8.0.6 and later versions
  • Workbook created in Tableau Desktop 8.0.5 or earlier versions
  • Data blending
  • Workbook contains calculated fields that reference the secondary data source

  1. Open the workbook in Tableau Desktop 8.0.5 or an earlier version.
  2. For every calculated field that references the secondary data source, create a new calculated field using the following formula as a template: LOOKUP([Original formula], 0). For example, LOOKUP([SUM(Sales)/SUM(Profit)], 0).
  3. Click OK.
  4. In each view, replace the original calculated fields with the newly created calculated fields.
  5. Delete the original calculated fields from the workbook.

Additional Information

The LOOKUP() function does not change the result of the calculated field in any way, because an offset of "0" is specified. LOOKUP() simply tells Tableau Desktop to return the value for the current row.
