Data Out-of-Date in Tableau Server Views After Refreshing Extract

Issue

After an extract is refreshed on Tableau Server, the views in workbooks might not show the most up-to-date data, even after clicking Refresh Data.

Environment

  • Tableau Server
  • Extracts

Resolution

  1. Download the workbook from Tableau Server and open it in Tableau Desktop.
  2. In Tableau Desktop, make a live connection to the published data source. For more information, see Use Data Sources.
  3. Replace the local extract with the published data source. For more information, see in Replacing a Data Source.
  4. Republish the workbook. 

Cause

The workbook is connected to a local extract rather than the published data source.
