Published: 06 May 2013
Last Modified Date: 30 Dec 2015

Issue

When you try to publish a workbook to Tableau Server or load a view from Tableau Server, the following error might occur:

Tableau Data Engine Error: 8: No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.
- IPC_Socket::Connect(socket::connect::connect host="127.0.0.1", port=27042)
Response code: 500

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 8.0
  • Tableau Server 8.0

Resolution

To resolve the issue, stop and restart Tableau Server.

  1. On the computer hosting Tableau Server, open the Command Prompt as an administrator and run one of the following commands:
    • On a 32-bit computer: cd "C:\Program Files\Tableau\Tableau Server\[version]\bin"
    • On a 64-bit computer: cd "C:\Program Files (x86)\Tableau\Tableau Server\[version]\bin"
  2. At the command prompt, run the following commands in order:
    • tabadmin stop
    • tabadmin start

Additional Information

If restarting the server does not resolve the issue, confirm that no changes were made to the pg_hba.conf.templ file. Manual changes to this file can sometimes cause the data engine to fail with the error described here.
