Dashboard Stops Responding When Viewing Underlying Data

When viewing a workbook published to Tableau Online, the dashboard might become unresponsive when viewing the underlying data of selected marks.

Check the workbook where the issue occurs to see if there are any complex calculated fields - like fields using LOD (and especially nested LODs!) expressions. Remove the complex expressions (like LOD) and see if the Underlying data loads faster. If it does, this is a workbook performance issue and the workbook should be optimized. For more information, see 6 Tips to Make Your Dashboard More Performant.

Quite often, the real issue is the extremely long time it takes for the Underlying data to appear.
After clicking View Data -> Underlying, the data does appear in the end, but it may take 10-20 minutes to show.

The slowness is down to the very complex query that is sent to the data source when disaggregating the data (when clicking View Data -> Underlying, Tableau composes a SQL query to disaggregate the selected data).
