Error "[Cloudera][HiveODBC] (34) Error from Hive: No more data to read.." Connecting to Cloudera on a Mac

Issue

When attempting to connect to Cloudera on a Mac, the following error is shown:

Unable to connect to the ODBC Data Source.  Check that the necessary drivers are installed and that the connection properties are valid.
[Cloudera][HiveODBC] (34) Error from Hive: No more data to read..
Unable to connect to the server "hostname.or.ip". Check that the server is running and that you have access privileges to the requested database.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 10.2.0
  • Mac OS
  • Cloudera Hadoop Hive

Resolution

When connecting, select 'Username' as the Authentication type, and leave the username blank.
