Issue

When attempting to Unpackage a *.twbx file (packaged workbook), an "Open With" dialogue window opens and no files are unpackaged.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Windows

Resolution

Note: Option 1 will resolve the issue for all *.twbx files. Option 2 or 3 would need to be performed on each file to be unpackaged.

Option 1: Associate Tableau with *.twbx or *.twb files
     A. Right Click on the *.twbx file
     B. Select "Choose Default Program..."
     C. Select "Tableau Desktop"

Option 2:Use 7-Zip to extract the packaged workbook
     A. Right click on the *.twbx file
     B. Select 7-Zip and "Extract files..."
     C. Select a location and click "OK"

Option 3: Associate the specific file as a zipped file
     A. Right Click on the *.twbx file and select "Rename"
     B. Replace ".twbx" with ".zip"
     C. Click "OK"
     D. Right click on the file and choose "Extract All"
     E. Select a location and click "OK"

Cause

The file is not associated with Tableau Desktop, so the "Unpackage" functionality cannot be accessed.
