Blended Data Displays Incorrectly When Linking on a Date

Published: 13 Sep 2017
Last Modified Date: 15 Sep 2017

Issue

When you blend data using exact date as the linking field, the measure values displayed in the view might not be correct. For example, the data might display correctly at the month level but incorrectly at the quarter level, or vice versa.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop

Cause

When linking on an exact date, Tableau Desktop will look for exact matches between the linking fields in the primary and secondary data sources, even if the date in the view is aggregated at a higher level, such as month. Creating relationships between all the date parts will allow Tableau Desktop to compare the date values correctly according to the date aggregation used in the view.
