Issue

How to add a header at the top of a measure column which does not have a header.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop 9.2
  • Windows 7

Resolution

  1. Create a calculated field named Title
  2. In the body of the calculated field use the following text (the quotations are neccessary):

       "Desired column header"

  1. Drag the newly created field Title to Columns
  2. Right-click on the text "Title" and select "Hide field labels for columns"

Cause

Columns made of measures, or fields on the Marks card, do not by default have a column header since their information is often better conveyed by axis or Mark labels.
