Hadoop Hive Datasource embedded credentials are not saved after publishing to Tableau Server

Issue

When Tableau Server 10 (or a higher version) is connected to a Hadoop Hive Datasource with Embedded credentials and a custom SSL cert has been specified in the Desktop connection, Tableau Server constantly prompts for credentials.

Additionally, the following error occurs when an extract attemp fails:

com.tableausoftware.nativeapi.dll.DataSourceException: Missing password

Environment

Tableau Server 10.0, 10.1, 10.2.0, 10.3.3, 10.4.0
Hadoop Hive based datasource
Custom SSL Certificate specified in Tableau Desktop connection

Resolution

As a Tableau Server Administrator, upgrade to Tableau Server 10.2.1 (and higher versions) ; 10.3.6 (and higher versions) and 10.4.1 (and higher versions). For more information, see Upgrading Tableau Server in Tableau Help.

Cause

The password is not embedded in the datasource when published to Tableau Server. Any actions that require the password are not passed through correctly.

This behavior is related to a known issue (ID: 703149) which has been fixed in a recent release of Tableau Server.
