Error "[iODBC][Driver Manager]dlopen({}, 6): image not found" Connecting to MySQL or Postgres on the Mac

Issue

When connecting to a MySQL or PostgreSQL data source from a Mac, the following error might occur:

The drivers necessary to connect to this database server are not properly installed.
[iODBC][Driver Manager]dlopen({}, 6): image not found 
[iODBC][Driver Manager]Specified driver could not be loaded

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • OSX
  • MySQL
  • Postgres

Resolution

Install the correct MySQL or Postgres drivers. For more information, see Drivers & Activation.

Cause

iODBC is the default ODBC manager installed with Mac OS X. Tableau Desktop requires the MySQL or Postgres drivers to be installed.

Note: Other applications may be able to connect to the MySQL or Postgres data source using iODBC.
