Reducing the Size of a Salesforce Extract

Question

How to reduce the amount of rows retrieved from Salesforce database.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • Salesforce

Answer

A possible workaround to reduce the size of the data set is to remove any unused fields:
  1. After establishing a connection to Salesforce, drag the relevant tables into the Data window.
  2. Within the metadata, right-click on the field titles that to be excluded from the extract and select Hide
When a field is hidden and an extract is created the data associated with that field is not included in the extract, reducing the amount of data imported.

Additional Information

The ability to limit the number of rows in a Salesforce extract is functionality not currently available in Tableau Desktop.
