Overlaying Shapes on a Gantt Chart

How to use shapes instead of bars in a Gantt chart.

The following instructions can be reviewed in the attached workbook.
  1. Create a Gantt Chart (Creating a Gantt chart for Small Time Increments)
  2. Drag the “Start" field to the "Columns" shelf.
  3. Right-click the new "Start" field and select the "Exact Date" option.
  4. Right-click the new "Start" axis and select format.
  5. Format the axis like the original "Start" axis (In the link above).
  6. Right-click the second "Start" field and select "Dual Axis".
  7. Right-click the top header and select "Synchronize Axis".
  8. In the "Start (2)" card change the type from "Gantt Bar" to "Shape".
  9. Delete the "Sum" and "Measure Names" fields from the "Start (2)" card.
  10. Place the "Event" field on "Shape" and on "Color".
  11. In the "Start" card click the color option and lower the Transparency to 50%.
