Hiding Measure Value if Only One Group Member is Present in the View

Question

How to hide a measure value if there is only a single member of a group in the view but show the value if there are multiple members of the group present.

Environment

Tableau Desktop

Answer

  1. Select Analysis > Create Calculated Field.
  2. Name the calculated field as desired.
  3. Enter the following calculation, where [Field With Multiple Members] represents the field whose value you want to filter out if there is only one member present:
    WINDOW_COUNT(COUNTD([Field With Multiple Members]))
  4. Click OK.
  5. Select Analysis > Create Calculated Field.
  6. Name the calculated field as desired.
  7. Enter the following calculation:
    IF [Calculation from step 1]> 1 THEN [Measure]
    ELSE NULL
    END
  8. Click OK.
  9. Drag [Field With Multiple Members] into the level of detail in the view if not already there.
  10. Drag the second calculated field onto Label (or wherever you want it to display).
  11. Right click the field and Add Quick Table Calculation >  Compute Using > [Field With Multiple Members]
