Question

How to connect to IBM DB2 10 for Linux, UNIX and Windows.

Environment

  • Tableau Desktop
  • IBM DB2 10

Answer

You can directly connect to DB2 for Linux, UNIX and Windows, version 9.1 or later, on all platforms except iSeries, by using the procedure described in the IBM DB2 topic in the Tableau Desktop Help.

Additional Information

  • The 32-bit DB2 drivers may be needed. Refer to the Drivers page.
  • Connecting to IBM DB2 is not supported on iSeries platforms because iSeries platforms have an extremely limited query structure.
  • It may be possible to connect to DB2 on iSeries platform by using the generic ODBC connection. While it may be possible to connect to a those types of data sources using the generic ODBC connection, success often varies and full compatibility with Tableau features cannot be guaranteed. For more information about the capabilities and limitations of connecting to unsupported data sources via generic ODBC connections, see to the following articles:

For a full list of supported data sources, see the Technical Specifications page.
